Ooh, la la! Happy Labor Day, mes petites!
This past weekend marked the unofficial end of summer. There is a certain sadness to watching the sunny days fade away. And yet, I am eager to feel the crisp air of fall, pick apples, watch the steam swirling from hot beverages, and wear scarves!
In fact, I am so excited about wearing scarves that I have started early. This year, fashion brought us a plethora of filmy, pretty scarves to transition us into fall. Such an easy way to brighten up a dull outfit!

Good morning on this beautiful post-Irene day in Portland, Maine!
After being tossed around by the wind yesterday, I am eager to be outside in the sun and lovely breeze. Alas, mes amies, summer is almost over. It is time to relish these last warm days.
The best way to do this is to pick up a darling summer tote bag, pack it with picnic supplies and head off to the beach or the woods for some luxurious relaxation. Even if you only go for a few hours, you will feel refreshed and ready to charge into fall. If your kids are finally back at school, now is the best time to pamper yourself.

Bonjour! Hello!
August tends to be quiet in Paris. With the warm, heavy heat, many people travel to the country or to the seaside. Still, you will see a few women strolling languidly through the arrondissements.
What you will also notice, as you look around this beautiful city, is hats. They are coming back, mes chères. A smart hat with a sun dress or a snappy suit is all the rage.

As summer ages, the nights begin to get chilly in Portland, Maine. Lucky us. Now we can take advantage of that perenially beautiful garment called the shrug. I adore a good shrug – both the garment and the gesture (the French are known for expressing all sorts of complicated ideas in the simple shoulder lift).
Shrugs come in all types of colors and fabrics. They can be light and airy, warm and cozy, and anything in between. Come into Motifs in the Old Port to see the Geraldine shrug. It is a sparkly, flirty way to glam up a dress for an evening out. Throw on an eye-catching bracelet or necklace, and you're ready to go.

Bonjour from sunny Portland, Maine!
I am excited to tell you that Motifs now carries a line of designs by Leslie Evans! From her studio on Two Lights Road in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Leslie Evans creates colorful, modern textile designs. Leslie's images perfectly capture the beauty and allure of Maine.
You can see why I feel so lucky to live in this beautiful state. Today in the Old Port, the century-old brick buildings are warm in the sun. The copper weather vane on top of Portland City Hall shines with promise. The cobblestones remind me of the past that brought us here today.
